As part of Ford's celebration of its 100th anniversary, the company unveiled the retro-inspired GT, a modern tribute to its racing legacy. The Ford GT honors the iconic GT40 program, which achieved remarkable success in the 1960s, dominating the 24 Hours of Le Mans by winning four consecutive titles from 1966 to 1969. Since its release, the Ford GT has garnered widespread acclaim, with production spanning the 2005 and 2006 model years, during which just 4,033 units were built. Not only did the Ford GT impress with its striking design, but it also delivered exceptional performance. Powered by a 5.4-liter DOHC V8 engine equipped with a Lysholm twin-screw supercharger, the GT produced 550 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque. This potent engine was paired with a Ricardo six-speed manual transmission and a helical limited-slip differential, allowing the car to achieve a top speed of 205 mph and accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.3 seconds. These extraordinary figures put the Ford GT in league with contemporaries like the Porsche Carrera GT and the Mercedes-McLaren SLR. For 2006, Ford released a limited-run Heritage edition, finished in a striking Heritage Blue with orange stripes, drawing inspiration from the Gulf Oil-sponsored GT40s that dominated Le Mans in 1968 and 1969. This 2006 Ford GT Heritage edition is a highly sought-after model, equipped with four premium options, including the Gulf Oil-inspired livery, gray-painted brake calipers, forged BBS wheels, and a McIntosh audio system with AM/FM radio, CD, and a subwoofer. Among the 2,011 Ford GTs produced for 2006, only 343 were the Heritage edition. Notably, this particular example carries the distinction of being originally owned by legendary hockey player Wayne Gretzky, who adorned it with his famous #99. The car's California registration provides confirmation of his ownership. It is believed that Mr. Gretzky enjoyed the vehicle for approximately seven years before it was passed to its current owner. With just 880 miles on the odometer, the car remains in pristine, original condition. It also comes with a complete set of accessories, including the window sticker, Ford GT certificate, manuals, air compressor, front license plate bracket, and a car cover with a duffle bag. The Ford GT stands as an extraordinary testament to Ford’s legacy, embodying the spirit of its racing success. This particular 2006 Heritage edition is even more special due to its connection with Wayne Gretzky, adding a unique chapter to its story and making it a highly collectible piece of automotive history.
