Merit Partners is pleased to offer for sale the first McLaren P1 HDK ever built. One of just two P1 HDK’s on the road today, this is the pinnacle of hybrid hypercars.
This car began life as a standard P1 road car, chassis 003. In its original form, this car was painted in Titanium Silver. The car resided in Florida with its original owner until 2020, when we sold it to one of our long-term clients and close friends. After purchasing the car, the client worked with us to send it to Lanzante Limited in the UK. Lanzante has long worked with McLaren and is well known as running the team that won Le Mans in 1995 with McLaren F1 GTR chassis 01R.
As Lanzante has worked with McLaren on refitting many F1’s, P1’s, and Senna’s, our client wanted to partner with them to transform his standard road car into something even more extraordinary and special. With this project, the P1 was to be recommissioned to compliment the iconic McLaren F1 chassis 018. F1 Chassis 018 is one of the most recognizable F1 road cars, finished in Platinum Silver with a cream and beige interior . Chassis 018 is known for two distinctive features, the LM specification engine and the High Downforce Kit. The LM specification engine is the 680 horsepower engine from the F1 LM, and only two F1 road cars sport this engine, 018 and 073. The High Downforce Kit transformed the exterior of 018. A few of the many highlights that this kit consisted of are a new carbon-fiber rear wing, an enlarged front splitter, and louvers on the front arches.
Working with Lanzante, our client was able to pay homage to 018 with a custom High Downforce Kit and a new spec for the car. In changing the body of the car, photos shown in the listing spotlight the process of disassembling the car back to its carbon fiber tub at Lanzante’s workshop. After disassembly, new suspension componentry and uprights were installed to increase aero load capacity. Beyond these aero benefitting changes, the car was modified, with revised rear bodywork, louvred front wings and the rear wing from the P1 GTR.
Following the conversion from P1 to P1 HDK, the car was fitted with a new engine created with collaboration between Lanzante and Cosworth. The new powerplant is a 4.0-liter engine with 1,000 horsepower.
Beyond the new engine and high downforce kit aero, new touches mark the car as an ode to the F1 018. The car has gold heat shields and other gold touches that are iconic markers of McLaren F1’s. The HDK Conversion takes about 9-12 months to complete depending on the overall project and if the engine upgrade is done, this car is complete and ready to be enjoyed. The total cost of the conversion is £600,000 GBP, the 4.0 liter Engine Upgrade is £150,000 GBP, and this car comes fitted with the Carbon Fiber Wheels which are an additional £25,000 GBP.
In its form today, P1 HDK 003 has just 2500 miles. With the unmistakable road presence from the high downforce kit and the larger engine, this car represents the perfect reimagination of the legendary P1.
